Support SHU Women's Soccer Alumni, Friends, and Family Campaign!
About Our Campaign
As proud members of the Sacred Heart University Women's Soccer team, we are actively participating in a campaign to raise critical funds for our program. This year our whole team is collectively striving to raise a total of $6,000.00 by October 1, 2017 – so we are kindly asking you to make a gift in support of SHU Women’s Soccer today!
The Women’s Soccer program can’t thank everyone enough for their support last season, from the 2016 fundraising campaign to the spring event at Fairchild Wheeler Golf Course. Last year’s fundraising dollars were instrumental in the overall success of our program. The gifts helped with providing pre-game meals, Honey Stingers (protein energy bards, waffles, and chews), top-notch speakers for our new field, along with foam rollers and bands for pre-game and post-game stretching. With that said, each contribution that is made has a positive and direct impact on each one of us.
This year, your gift will help ensure that our program has the necessary resources to compete at the Division I level. Your gift will enable our team to purchase training opponent mannequins, a top priority for our program. The training mannequins can be used in a variety of ways to compliment both skill training and conditioning drills. The most standard use is for corner kick training, but the equipment can be used as a defender for goalkeeper training, spacing drills for field players, and speed drills with or without a ball. Your gift will also provide key assistance with our travel budget that includes hotels, food, and team activities. In 2018 the team will be traveling to Hawaii and will hopefully have the opportunity to see the Pearl Harbor Memorial!
About Our Team
This season we’re looking forward to a special opportunity to build on last season’s success. Our non-conference schedule will give us some good tests as we prepare for another run at the Northeast Conference tournament! Last season we finished 8-6-5 overall and 5-1-2 in conference. We earned a spot in postseason with our 3-1 victory over Mount St. Mary's in late October, unfortunately falling to Central Connecticut in the semifinal. With that said, the upcoming year looks promising and we’re ready to work hard, taking on Hartford in our first home game of the season on September 7 at 3:00 p.m.
For the third straight year, our athletic department received the Northeast Conference Institutional Academic Award with 32 teams combining for a 3.381 GPA! The Institutional Academic Award completed the trifecta of conference honors for our athletic department, as we also captured the Brenda Weare Commissioner's Cup and the NEC Building Communities Award. This marks the second year in a row that we have won all three awards! Needless to say, we are truly proud to represent Sacred Heart University and have high expectations for the future of our program.
On behalf of the team, coaches, and administrators, thank you so much for your generosity and support of SHU Women’s Soccer. We hope to see you at a game, team event, or both this upcoming season!
Enjoyed a memorable team bonding experience consisting of yoga on Campus Field to prepare for the 2017-18 season!
Another fantastic team bonding experience we have had so far during the 2017-18 season was when we attended the NPSL championship game to support the "Elm City Express" which has four SHU Men's Soccer alumni represented on the sidelines!
